Exploration of Texture

Hongik University, Expression Design Studio

Photography, Booklet, 2017

‘Gyeol’ is a profound concept deeply rooted in Korean culture, encompassing the essence of texture and trace. It serves as both a standalone term and a suffix, infusing various meanings such as passage, duration, intervals, and more.

The inspiration for the Exploration of Gyeol project stemmed from an insightful article titled ‘Everything has its own Gyeol,’ authored by literary critic Eo-ryeong Lee.

This project delves beyond the surface to explore the interconnectedness of elements, transcending mere texture. It comprises three distinct sections: comparative textures, expanded textures, and traces of textures. By identifying shared textural qualities between individuals and objects, I aim to redefine the intrinsic connections that bind them together.
