‘Candlelight’ is an experimental typeface design project that embodies anger. The inspiration for this project came from Korea in 2016. In 2016, Korea was in huge chaos. Everyone was angry at the government for leaving people’s safety behind, and people began to gather in the square. And the most peaceful and sincere demonstrations to restore justice were held.
“Darkness cannot overshadow the light. Lies cannot defeat the truth.” This was the most representative phrase of the demonstrations. People would use this phrase as a lyric and sing along. Following this phrase, Candlelight has two keywords: distortion and voice. Distortion symbolizes the forces trying to hide the truth, and the voice symbolizes anger against them.
When you first access the website, you will initially see yellow graphics that are distorted beyond recognition. However, if you speak loudly or blow into the microphone, you will soon be able to read the sentences. The distorted shape becomes stronger and clearer as the voices of anger gather and is finally reborn as a message.
